The Tesla chief Elon Musk said this in a post on Twitter, but he did not reveal when he would visit the country.
Confirming speculations of an upcoming trip to India, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced via his own microblogging platform his anticipation to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister @NarendraModi in India!” Musk shared on Wednesday, although he didn’t disclose the exact timing of the visit.
Earlier reports from Reuters hinted at Musk’s plan to visit India later in the month, suggesting he might unveil intentions to invest in the country and establish a new factory. Musk, who previously met with PM Modi in the US last June, expressed enthusiasm, describing himself as a “fan” and affirming Tesla’s potential presence in India.

This announcement coincides with India’s recent unveiling of an electric vehicle policy aimed at attracting global manufacturers. The policy includes substantial tax cuts of up to 85% on imported EVs, incentivizing investment. Additionally, it mandates certain criteria for manufacturers, such as a minimum investment of $500 million and achieving 50% domestic value addition within five years.
According to Reuters, Tesla officials are expected to visit India in April to explore potential sites for a manufacturing plant, with an estimated investment of around $2 billion.
